There are three very active boys playing with cars, blocks, and super heroes very close to me. They are very loud…and did I mention Sesame Street is also on blast? And every few minutes my daughter is coughing and sniffling as she sits across from me doing some school work. The dog is in her kennel whining, and tossing around. But yet with all the noise around me, what I hear most are the thoughts in my head! You know the ones, where as much as you try not to think about them…you’re thinking about them?!?! I would love to just turn everything down or turn something off….but I don’t want an easy way out. But I do need to turn down the “noise.” Those distractions that keep me from seeing what I truly need to see, which is: the positive in all that is around me.
I’m thinking about David and how he had a bunch of people trying to distract him from his course. There were doubters, haters, and people that were flat out concerned that this man was walking toward his death when he challenged Goliath (1 Samuel 17). I think that surely this man had to turn down the noise or cut if off. If he would have let all that noise take him off course, then Goliath would probably still be challenging folks right now, lol. And then, looking at the bigger picture, the bloodline would have taken a detour because David would have died before his time. I say this because it encourages me to keep pushing toward my goal, to win my prize (Philippians 3:14). I want to win my prize and have the life that God has for me, by not letting the noise continue to take me off course, and take longer to reach the goals God has for my life. I mean, who wants to take longer by tripping over their own shoe laces, when all you have to do is keep them tied? Not I, lol.
If you have a lot of noise that keeps trying to throw you off course, I encourage you to turn them down or cut them off. Allow God to show you the things that need your attention and those that don’t. There is also beauty in the noise, you just have to know how to see that beauty. Close your eyes, take a deep breath, and mediate on God’s voice. Then open your eyes and see in a new way.
Smile and be a blessing!
If you don’t know Jesus as your Lord and Savior, confess with your mouth that He is Lord and that He died and rose again on the third day. Ask Him to forgive you, cleanse you, to come live inside of you. You are saved! AMEN!
