Distracted? Who me?

My daughter is almost fourteen now, and gets distracted…mostly by devices. I can tell her something has to be done, and then come back and it’s still not done. What’s the normal reason? She gets distracted by something or another. It could be making sure she doesn’t mess up her streaks on the snapchat…yes I said, THE snapchat. It could be because she’s watching yet another makeup tutorial on YouTube. Whatever the case, she is distracted from what I have told her to do. Nine times out of ten it is something simple, like doing her laundry, washing the few dishes in the sink or giving her brother a bath. Does she deliberately disobey me? I hope not, but nonetheless she was distracted by something or another. Do I forgive her, and discipline her? Absolutely! And then I give her another chance to get it right. That’s how Jesus is with us.

A lot of times we get distracted by things that happen in our every day. Work, chores, appointments, sickness, kids, spouses, functions, and more. Why did I put sickness in there? Because that is something that we can hold and use as a distraction. Think about it, if you are sick, in any capacity, you don’t necessarily want to read your Bible, worship & praise, pray for someone else, or even help someone else. We as humans tend to want to take care of us and feed into ourselves, but we still have to follow what Jesus says even in our sickness. Even if you are unable to move, you have the ability to pray for someone else, sing worship & praise to the Lord and hum a hymn to Him. And that goes for us when we are rushing through our day as well.

With our focus on God, we are giving Him our very best, and that’s what He wants us to do. He knows what you have in your day, but He also wants to be first in everything you do. How to do this?

But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Matthew 6:33

Cast your cares on the Lord and he will sustain you: he will never let the righteous be shaken. Psalm 55:22

Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you. 1 Peter 5:7

With God as your number one, everything will fall into place. If you feel yourself getting distracted or overwhelmed, seek Him. If you feel yourself worrying, seek Him. If you feel yourself growing tired, seek Him. In whatever you do, seek Him. You may have to get rid of some things, and that’s okay. God wants all of you. He knows that you have desires, and He will give you those too. Just don’t let the things of the world distract you from the One that provides everything you need.
